Within the Okanagan-Similkameen region there is an increasing use of former railway rights-of-way for recreation.

The route of the Kettle Valley Railway has become a popular destination for hiking, cycling, horseback riding, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.

Highlights of the KVR include numerous stunning vistas, an easy gradient and unique topography. In some parts of the region, the KVR Rail Trail passes orchards, vineyards and wineries.
